Running CHKDSK SCAN:
CHKDSK is nothing but Check Disk and it is a CMD command which scans the Hard disk if there is any error or corrupted files within the selected drive so this will help you identify if the error is caused by a hard disk issue.
Below we have explained how to do a CHKDSK scan in detail so follow the below steps and check if your hard disk is having any corrupted files.
This scan can be done in two ways and we have explained both ways because some people are not familiar using the CMD
Method 1: Using Drive tools
- Goto This PC and right-click on the c drive.
- Select Properties and select the tab Tools
- Now the very first option is Error Checking as you can see in the below image.
- Simply tap on the check button and it will start checking your local disk C.
Method 2: Using CMD
- Go to Start and search for CMD
- Now right click on the Command prompt and select “Run as administrator”
- Once you run as Administrator it will open the CMD
- Now type CSKDSK C;/r and hit enter.
- Here we are scanning the C drive because all the core windows files are in local disk c.
- It will ask to restart your pc so type Y and hit enter.
- It will shut down and start scanning your C drive for any errors.
Modify Security Description in WinSXS folder.
WinSXS is one fo the main folder which contained all your Windows system updates and if the SFC scan account access then folder then you may face the error which is causing. So we suggest you to modify this by following the below folder.
- Go to Search bar and Open CMD
- Now run the CMD as administrator
- Once the terminal is opened then type the following command> ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs and hit enter.
- Now reboot the pc so that the changes will apply.

Using safe mode for SFC Scan
Due to some reasons, the CHKDSK can fail to repair the damaged core file and you are getting the same error then we suggest you to use the safe mode to perform the SFC Scan
- Go to search and type run
- A new small window will pop up at the below right corner.
- Type MSConfig and tap on enter.
- It will open the system configure window and there you have to select the boot tap.
- Now in the boot tab, you will find Safe mode. Simply enable that option and apply the setting.
Once you have enabled the safe mode, We suggest you perform the SFC scan and check if the issue is solved or still facing.
Enabling Windows Module installer
Many people disable this option because of frequent windows updates. If you are one from then the SFC scan may not work and it is not allowing to update and there may be bugs that are stopping the SFC Scan.
- Go to search and type run or you can directly use the shortcut code Windows+R to open
- Tye the code Services.msc and hit enter to open.
- Now search for the windows module installer from the list of services.
- Select the module installer and click on start.
Once the above method is followed then perform the SFC scan and hope it works. If still facing the same issue then follow the fifth method below.
If you are still facing the same issue even after trying the above menthod methods then we syggest you to boot into the recovery mode and then the below process.
Recovery Mode:
- Turn on and turn off your PC/Laptop
- At the time of booting up press f11 to enter into the recovery mode
- Once you have entered the recovery mode use the option Command Prompt from the tools and tap enter.
- Now enter the following command sfc/SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows and hit enter on your keyboard.
Once the process is done exit the recovery mode and turn on your pc and then perform the SFC scan and check if the error is still occuring.
If you are still facing the issue even after trying the above five methods then we suggest you to repair or install the fresh windows using CD or Bootable Pendrive.
